Synopsis
ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL 2012 returns to the cinema this coming lunar New Year with its sixth installment as well as an ensemble cast that includes Donnie Yen, Louis Koo, Chapman To, Raymond Wong, Sandra Ng, Kelly Chen, Lynn Hung and Yang Mi. Set to thrill the Chinese New Year audience, this beloved slapstick comedy follows the lives of four men on a heroic mission to help four female protagonists ... and find themselves on a journey of self-discovery and beautiful new relationships.
About the Stars
Donnie Yen and Sandra Ng
Yen's character was not a singer at the beginning, but he would like to try something beyond audience's expectation. I thought about it day and night, and one day Yen came up and said, "I want to act as a failed singer." Knowing his piano is superb, I asked, "A singer who plays piano?" To my surprise he said, "No, the type that sings and plays the guitar." So I asked, "Can you play a guitar?" He honestly answered no and said, "I will learn and give it all out if you let me to do so."
Thanks to his excellent foundation of music, he could already sing and play the guitar in 10 lessons. As time is running out, he even made use of spare time to practice during filming. When it came to the recording stage, the effect was more than satisfactory! At least convincing enough for his character. Thus we wrote his part without any reservation.
For Sandra, her character was originally a strong woman. After knowing Yen is going to sing, she desperately wanted to sing too. When she saw us, she immediately yelled "I want to sing and dance. I want to be member of a once-popular girls group!"
In the end this pair has performed expressively, making the filming days so happy that the crews all enjoyed so much.
Louis Koo and Kelly Chen
This is my first time to work with Kelly. Although she has never starred in a comedy, her personality is definitely more humorous than any of the characters she acted. More importantly, Kelly also wanted to break the frame of being a well-behaved lady.
On the contrary, Louis found himself acting mischievously in many comedies, so he would like to try an implicit approach. This time his character is a "foreman who sincerely wants to upgrade himself". He proposed, "Let me try to speak English." Then he tried out in the first scene and was very comedic. Therefore we all agreed to let the story go this away.
This pair is about lovers of different social status. Being the first encounter in screenplay, the chemistry between Louis and Kelly is amazing. Very Nice.
Chapman To and Lynn Xiong
The design for this pair is the most challenging. As we aim to give audience a sense of freshness, there are new combinations of casts except Chapman and Lynn. Thus a breakthrough of their roles is significant.
Chapman's acting has been exaggerating. To create contrast we want him as implicit as possible, so we think of a wit because he has never looked like one. Here comes the question again: there is no typical appearance for a wit. How should we design his image? Then something pops in to my mind: Apart from a writer, a wit can also be a director. A director with a strong image....isn't it Peter Chan? Chapman is so excited. "Easy! We are close friends. I know all his petty actions." He started mimicking Peter and made everyone laugh. Peter Chan has therefore become the framework of his role.
Lynn was a shrewish, affluent lady last year, so this year she is assigned to be a pity girl. To create affection between her and bad-looking Chapman, it seems more convincing that she is sightless. Lynn was very confident about her character, "I have 700 degrees of myopia. I'm like sightless if I don't put on contact lens." To add persuasiveness to her acting, Lynn went to an organization for the blind to observe their movement, and learn how they cope with daily life.
My career began from radio broadcasting. At that time we had many "voice-acting" tasks, so I tried to incorporate the skills and present feelings with voice rather than visual in this story. In addition, this story is about "truth and untruth in a relationship". Love and feelings are both subjective and personal. For example, in the end Lynn thought Chapman was handsome. What really matters is personal belief. The rest is just sand.
Raymond Wong and Yang Mi
Rich man, bullied man....Raymond has always been a good guy on the screen. This time he had to be a loathsome attorney, so obnoxious that even his daughter hated him.
Yang is one of the most popular actresses in the mainland. She was named the "Four Up and Coming Actresses" with Eva Huang, Crystal Liu and May Wang. Not only does she have a fun personality and an interesting voice, but she also has the intelligence to memorize all the Cantonese lines. Used to be in ancient costumes, this is the first time she participated in Hong Kong style comedy. In addition to her devotion, we are impressed to see that mainland actors/ actresses are more capable of catching the rhythm of Hong Kong style comedy now.
A fairytale-like story: a divorced man who learnt to whip up the relationship with his daughter through being a "phony-daddy", and an affluent lady in need of a father to select the most suitable future husband. The chemistry between Hong Kong and mainland artists sparkled the movie too.
