Overview: 50 Years of Art

Communication Arts (also known as The Journal of Commercial Art, CA Magazine, and simply CA or ca) published its first issue in August 1959, with 70 pages, a $1.50 cover price and designed by Lloyd Pierce.

While our library is currently missing around 48 of the roughly 370 issues published to date, we're only missing three of the annuals (CA-1961, CA-1962 and CA-1964.) For now, we're publishing indexes of the two latest illustration annuals: CA Illustration 49 and CA Illustration 50. The rest of the illustration and photography annuals will be published beginning sometime in late October 2009. Most of this data is already in electronic format, waiting to be inserted into the master database and published to the wiki.
